The alkyne diol series TL-J20/40/65 and TL-104 series are typical Gemini surfactants, belonging to the compact ABA structure. These surface active molecules have a small molecular weight, compact structure, and higher surface activity. They have outstanding effects in reducing surface tension, especially dynamic surface tension.
Acetylene glycol contains not only alkynyl groups (- C ≡ CH), but also polar groups - OH and non-polar hydrocarbon groups. This structure determines that alkyne alcohol compounds have many excellent properties.
(1) Surface activity
The - C ≡ CH and - OH of alkynes give them strong polarity and hydrophilicity, while the alkyl group of alkynes gives them hydrophobicity. Therefore, alkynes are excellent non-ionic surfactants.
(2) Excellent wettability
The branched groups in the alkyl group are mostly small groups (methyl), and there are two polar groups in the structure, which endow alkynes with good wettability.
(3) Low foaming and defoaming properties
The hydrocarbon branch chain in alkynol weakens the attraction between adjacent molecules and forms a compressible and breathable expansion film at the gas-liquid interface, so it is not easy to form foam itself. It has certain defoaming ability. When used together with other defoamers, it can enhance defoaming ability and play a defoaming synergistic effect. Most wetting agents are easy to produce foam, and most defoamers will reduce the wettability. Acetylene alcohol, as a surfactant, has excellent wetting properties and low foaming and defoaming properties.
(4) Good dispersibility
Compared with other surfactants, alkynes have a lower molecular weight, making them easier to diffuse and have good dispersibility.
(5) Low toxicity
Acetylene glycol has low toxicity. Usually, the toxicity of tertiary alkynes such as MP is much lower than that of secondary alkynes such as propargyl alcohol.
(6) Excellent corrosion inhibition
Most corrosion inhibitors in acidic media are organic compounds that can strongly adsorb on metal surfaces. Ethanol molecules contain both polar and non-polar groups, making them suitable as adsorption type organic corrosion inhibitors.
